Five Go to Smuggler's Top

The Famous Five are Julian, Dick, Anne, George (Georgina), and her loyal dog, Timmy. During the Easter holidays at George's home, Kirrin Cottage, a terrible storm uproots a tree which crashes into the house, making it unsafe to occupy.

The children are invited to stay with a school friend of Julian and Dick’s, Pierre "Sooty" Lenoir, at his home: the imposing and eerie Smuggler's Top. The house sits on a hilltop surrounded by treacherous marshes. One major problem arises immediately: Mr. Lenoir, Sooty's stepfather, hates dogs, so Timmy must be hidden in a secret passage to avoid being discovered
