The Taming of the Shrew
The central plot follows two sisters, the sharp-tongued Katherina and the sweet Bianca. Their father insists that the ill-tempered Katherina must marry before the desirable Bianca. Petruchio, a wealthy man from Verona, arrives to "tame" Katherina and make her his wife. The play explores themes of gender roles, marriage, wit, and the battle of the sexes through a whirlwind of verbal sparring, deception, and farcical situations.
The book includes the iconic warning from Katherina: "If I be waspish, best beware my sting." As a drama script, it is an excellent resource for studying English literature, drama, and classic comedy at the high school level or for general reading.
